Purchase of a notebook – lunch in an ale-house on Jungfernstieg, coffee in
Vaterland, past the house where Brahms was born in Speckstraße, to the
bookshop Boysen.

Visit of Curio House* with Claudia Asher.

In the ale-house Fischmayonnaise: Pleasant but too dear

Finally buy a short "History of Literature" by Karl Heinemann, written before the Machtübernahme.

Awful feeling all the time of being hounded on. Fever. Breathlessness. Schön ist das nicht. Poem in "Stundenblatt" by Christian Morgenstern. Not the painter apparently.

*The Curio House, clubhouse of the society "Gesellschaft der Freunde des
vaterländischen Schul- und Erziehungswesens" ("society for friends of the national educational system and –matters"), named after its founder J. C. D. Curio (1754-1815), a splendid building containing meeting-rooms, ballrooms,
apartments and a library, just ten minutes walk from the Dammtor train station,
dedicated to "the spirit of love, truth and freedom" in 1911, it was considered the
"spiritual centre-point of Hamburg's teachers", providing the facilities for further education, assemblies, balls and feasts of the arts. A studio-house stood in the garden.
